Vision
To be a beacon of faith, knowledge, and dialogue — shaping leaders, bridging cultures, and advancing understanding in the Middle East and beyond.
Mission
Baptism Site International Orthodox University (BIOU) is a non-profit institution dedicated to academic excellence, ethical leadership, and meaningful intercultural and interfaith dialogue. Rooted in the Orthodox tradition and located at the sacred Baptism Site in Jordan, it prepares globally minded leaders who unite faith, knowledge, and service. Through education and research, BIOU advances understanding, collaboration, and the common good in the region and beyond.
Objectives
The University aims to solidify the Orthodox Christian presence in Jordan and within the fields of higher education. As a national institution of higher education and scientific research, it seeks to serve humanity through all possible means, most importantly:
• Providing opportunities for study, specialization, and in-depth exploration across diverse fields of knowledge, aligned with national needs, while fostering a broad cultural foundation and a commitment to quality and excellence in preparing a generation dedicated to serving both the nation and the Church.
• Promoting and advancing scientific research by cultivating intellectual independence, critical thinking, personal initiative, and teamwork among students.
• Equipping students with the academic and methodological tools necessary for scientific research and for pursuing graduate studies at both local and international levels.
• Preserving the spiritual, cultural, and historical heritage of Christianity in the Arab East, while instilling ethical values in education, research, and community service.
• Providing a solid foundation in Orthodox theology that enables students to understand their faith deeply and to serve the Church with awareness and discernment.
• Preparing spiritually and academically qualified pastoral leaders capable of serving Orthodox communities locally and internationally, supported by contemporary pastoral training programs, particularly relevant to the needs of the Middle East.
• Empowering students to engage with contemporary cultural and intellectual challenges through modern analytical tools grounded in Orthodox faith and enriched by essential life skills.
• Encouraging active participation in contemporary theological and intellectual discourse, strengthening the Orthodox presence within these fields.
• Fostering a distinct Orthodox intellectual identity that remains open to broader humanistic, philosophical, and linguistic disciplines related to faith.
• Undertaking all appropriate means necessary to fulfill the mission and objectives for which the University is established.
