His Eminence Archbishop Christophoros, accompanied by a number of priests and deacons, inspected the construction works at the BIO University, in the presence of Mr. Markos, who donated the construction of the university, along with members of the engineering committee supervising the project.
It is noteworthy that the BIO University was announced by His Majesty King Abdullah II during his meeting with representatives of Christian denominations and his exchange of Christmas greetings with them in 2025. His Majesty also granted a royal donation for its establishment at one of the holiest Christian sites in the world—the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Al-Maghtas)—which is considered a source of spiritual inspiration and reflection. This enhances its status and spiritual and academic mission, making it a global intellectual platform that brings together heritage and renewal.
The university will host students and researchers from all over the world and will serve as a spiritual and academic beacon in Orthodox theology. It will strive to create an authentic Christian intellectual environment that engages with moderate Islamic thought, aiming to address shared issues and confront emerging intellectual and ethical challenges. This will contribute to strengthening coexistence and consolidating Orthodox and Christian identity in our Holy Land and the broader region, through graduating a distinguished generation of thinkers and researchers representing the Orthodox and Christian world at large. The university will include multiple faculties, such as the Faculty of Theology and Church Fathers, the Faculty of Law and Canon Law, the Faculty of Languages, the Faculty of History, the Faculty of Greek Philosophy and Logic, the Faculty of Interfaith Dialogue and Comparative Religion, as well as the Faculty of Biblical Exegesis.
