With the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine and Jordan, His Eminence Metropolitan Christophoros, Metropolitan of Jordan for the Greek Orthodox, launched the official website of the International Orthodox Baptismal University (B.I.O.Uni), in the presence of a number of priests. This marks a new step in the university’s journey to enhance its academic and spiritual presence and to promote its mission locally, regionally, and internationally.
The launch of the website follows the official opening of the International Orthodox Baptismal University by His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, may God protect and preserve him, on May 18, at the Baptismal Site of Jesus Christ/Al-Maghtas, one of the holiest Christian sites in the world, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
During the website launch, His Eminence Metropolitan Christophoros emphasized the importance of this step in conveying the university’s message to the world. He noted that the university, originating from the heart of the Holy Land where Jesus Christ was baptized, carries a message that transcends the boundaries of academic education, serving as a space for knowledge, dialogue, and encounter, and a bridge connecting the authenticity of the Orthodox faith with the needs of humanity and the modern world.
The new website serves as a comprehensive digital window to introduce the university, its vision, mission, values, academic programs, and student life. It also provides information related to admissions, registration, special programs, news, and activities, enabling students, researchers, and interested individuals from Jordan, the region, and the world to gain a comprehensive understanding of the university and its programs.
The International Orthodox Baptismal University offers a multidisciplinary academic model that integrates theology, philosophy, law, languages, and humanities and cultural studies, drawing upon the intellectual and spiritual heritage of Orthodox Christianity, and within a framework of academic excellence, openness, dialogue, and social responsibility.
The university currently offers bachelor’s degree programs in theology, philosophy, law, and languages, along with three master’s degree programs in Orthodox canon law, interfaith dialogue and spiritual exchange, and Orthodox spirituality. It also offers specialized programs, including a study of the Holy Scriptures and a spiritual retreat program at the Baptism Site.
In this context, His Eminence Metropolitan Christophoros, with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, invited members of the clergy and laity throughout the Patriarchal See who wish to deepen their knowledge and academic studies to explore the university’s programs and apply for admission.
His Eminence emphasized that the university is open to all interested clergy and laity, encouraging them to take advantage of this unique academic opportunity. He added that this will contribute to preparing a generation that combines profound faith with academic knowledge, enabling them to serve the Church, society, and its mission in the contemporary world.
The university derives its unique character from its location at the Baptism Site, where its academic structure is intertwined with the spiritual and historical significance of the place. This makes the university a meeting point for students and researchers from around the world, a platform for intercultural and interreligious dialogue, and a space for preserving, studying, and transmitting the Christian heritage of the Arab East to future generations.
His Majesty King Abdullah II inaugurated the university on May 18, 2026, at the site of Jesus Christ’s baptism, coinciding with his directive to the government to adopt and support the initiative to commemorate the 2,000th anniversary of the baptism of Jesus Christ in 2030. This reaffirms the global religious and historical importance of the Baptism Site and Jordan’s role in protecting and preserving holy sites and religious and cultural heritage.
The launch of the website today marks a new phase in the journey of the International Orthodox University of the Baptism Site, serving as its window to the world. Emanating from the Baptism Site, it carries a message that combines faith, knowledge, and dialogue, extending from Jordan to a global academic and spiritual sphere.
